NHS Data Woes
Transcription:
Hello I just wanted to create a quick video, I’ve been reading a blog on the weekly independent and their latest article about the NHS, it got my attention and I suppose it’s really the demand for this paperless system to integrate data management so that they can deal with the backlog I suppose and all the challenges they have been facing. Now I am aware that the NHS spent about £61 million pounds on their website, so why this was not implemented at this time I am unaware. I can only assume that it was down to some sort of security concern or you know something like…from my point of view, from my perspective, if my private information is on a public domain such as the internet, how is going to be secured?
How do I know that the person using this system is not going to leak my information? So I suppose that could have been quite a good reason for this to not be implemented. But at the same time, I know many companies, myself included, I use such systems. I think automation and using umm..data integration these days is imperative, I mean the way APIs have been released to let two pieces of software communicate with each other. I think that is fantastic and I think its really made it accessible for the average company, not need to employ high tech computer people to come in on board to design these systems for them. They have the ability now, to have it outsourced. I mean there are companies out there such as elance, people per hour, loads of different opportunities for you to get the services that you need at a much reduced cost. And I mean I’m all for the NHS using these services and systems.
What I want to know really I suppose is how is it going to be monitored, how are they actually going to monitor this system is being used effectively? But I think it is something that is overdue, and it’s been coming for a long time, and given that they have been told that by 2014 this needs to be integrated. It will be interesting to see how they step up to the task. I think given a good project management system, given something that will actually serve the people that are actually visiting the NHS will benefit both the people and the NHS and the government in turn. I’d like to see it rolled out from the NHS to maybe the job centre and to the other areas. Because I think there is such a strong demand on the government at the moment that to have systems in place that automate this…I think it’s absolutely integral.
